So here's my lame-ass pitch for yet another Sonic-related comic *rolls eyes* that I am hoping to recruit for. Don't worry, I'm not gonna harass anybody (much). I simply want to let the artistic and creative community and particularly the Sonic enthusiasts know about what I feel will be a fun and interesting project.
Zonerunners originally started out under the guise of 'Sonic Adventures' way back when in 2004 and was an interesting twist on the Sonic universe combining elements from various Sonic mediums including SatAM, Archie, Fleetway and even the video games. The project however was too "big" to handle at the time in my opinion and the various people involved soon lost interest, including myself.
Five years down the line and I still find myself with a strange kind of loyalty to the ideas that we're being produced back then and with the amount of time I've had to think on it the story has allowed itself to evolve and mature to a more sensible, logical, and brilliant format!
The basic premise of the graphic novel is too portray a new more terrifying dystopian Mobius which is fully under control of its dictator Robotnik. Think Sonic the Hedgehog meets Terminator Salvation in terms of its look and feel. The people of Mobius have been forced into a machine-like lifestyle being heavily monitored by Robotnik's regime and forced into hard work-details. The resultant oppression of the people has forced some of the Mobians to rebel in a group known as 'The Zonerunners'. The runners are a global organisation however they mainly fight in a small skirmishes and espionage battles making them very hard to capture or kill for that matter. Though their presence is well known and acknowledged their small numbers make them only a minimal threat to Robotnik's hold over Mobius. It generally doesn't help that they are also seen as terrorists and heretics by the majority of the planet who have been misled by the media etc. It is within the ranks of the Zonerunners that the main characters of the comic will come from, including the likes of Sonic and Tails.
I could carry on by going into the plot, characters, mythology and themes of the comic more intricately however I'd rather save a full outline pitch to people who are actually interested in participating. Also its nice for people to come into the project with an open-mind and their own ideas rather than being restricted by mine right off the get-go. The first phase of production is to generally start with a fresh outlook on the comic, a concept stage if you will where we can explore different ideas between a group of us. I'm looking for writers, artists, or anyone with a creative mind to get involved so we can start to get this off the ground. We're not looking at any deadlines or anything so it would be more of a project we can do casually and hopefully have some fun with too. Don't hesitate too email me or contact me via this page if you want to get involved. Cheers.
